I had this buttonwood for about 3 months now. I never did anything with it. I got it put it into the pot and left it alone. I ha e it in a small greenhouse at the moment and it grew a lot since then. I am not sure if I should change the angle to make it go up instead of cascading turning it into a literati or windswept. Or maybe or at it the way it is.

I feel like that top branch should go

Very hard to see, can you do a front on shot.

Plus buttonwood has a a pronounced taper.
I would suggest 3 to 5 years of some form of ground growing
get a 3 inch diameter trunk.
Then work it.

It takes 35 to 50 years for the wood to get the durability
for the wannabe Juniper look.

Perhaps an attractive informal.
The bark as it ages is extremely attractive.
Good Day

I will post more pics later.
I got it already at that angle and left it that way. There is a Shari that runs up to the branches. I will show that too in pics later.

Nice start. Trunk diameter is slender, I would keep most or all the branches until it thickens up in a few years. More foliage = thicker trunk.

Broad leaf trees seldom make good literati, though it can be done. Let it bulk up and grow a while, then decide on what to do.
