I did remove one branch from trunk when I brought it home, to help me see inside and clean out the dead stuff.
I'm gonna wait till next growing season to get it out of the nursery soil (that's just a top dressing).
Just wanted to post some pics and get any advice, thoughts or comments....
I do have one question...would it be a bad idea to do more trimming /pruning now, or anytime over winter???
I'm just itching to clip away at this bush!

I don't have any boxwood, but I would imagine that if the tree is dormant you can do structural pruning. This do make nice little images, with a little pruning and wiring. Enjoy, and show us the progress.

I think there is a nice little mame/shohin inside the orange rectangle, which probably means a couple of years driving the foliage down. Alternatively several/many years of growing out to thicken the trunk would come first to make a shohin or larger tree.

Are those flower buds?

If you want to get it all the way down...
I would wait till after the first flush hardens off, then reduce it considerably.

But nothing about boxwood has been consistent with me.

Little worried about repotting mine this spring.

I have had issues with my kingsville boxwood too...
I did some top and bottom reduction in mid-late may... I thought that would be OK....but it didn't like it....not at all.
Just dropped a couple branches and sulked all year....
It did push a few tiny shoots near the end of the summer, so it will survive, I think. But I do want to be more careful with this one.

Update:
I removed the large side branch and some more, this spring during repotting...which was bare rooting and major reduction....
Overall it was way more work than most boxwoods would like....
You may be able to see a few spots on the trunk where the bark came off...due to the big cutbacks...
I wonder if a slower approach could avoid this? Oh well.
Gonna keep chasing back and reducing each year, til it's nice n small...
Here it is today...

Growing strong this year!
It was looking much fuller, but I accidentally dropped a rock on it yesterday and broke a sizable branch right off.....flush break....no prob.
I'll let it extend and mow it down in the summer.
Seems to like the colander thingy....
