I started this tree around Christmas 2000 from a nursery specimen. It is patterned after the wide, spreading southern Live Oaks (Quercus virginiana) that grow in the southeastern Coastal plain.

Except for the yellow bark, boxwoods make better live oak bonsai than actual live oaks do.

Very nice tree. This is a nice style. Have you ever considered other styles for the tree. Seems like it might make a nice semi cascade/wind swept like style. Something like this maybe. I am not suggesting this, just something that I saw almost immediately after viewing the tree.

I agree. It has nice movement with that left side cut off. I like your eye Rob, I may start running all my tree ideas by you before cutting them.

I like it the way it is styled. Rob's idea does add movement, but I think the tree is very representative of most live oaks I see.

Either way, I think jkl's tree is awesome. I am just having fun with a really nice tree. I hope that is ok

I originally had 2 different virts in mind, I only posted one before. Here is the other one.

Aren't computers fun. I "redesign" trees often. Hand't though of the windswept. It's nice, but I don't think I'll do that quite yet. :)

Honest - I think it is awesome progress and I do not think I would change it to some "textbook" style and perhaps regret it later ;)
