Worked on my shimpaku threaded through a piece of limestone. I had potted up the shimpaku in a training pot in late 2019 and added the limestone as an afterthought. It looked nice but was very off balance.
Yesterday I repotted it into a custom April Grigsby pot. I think it came out pretty nice!
Here it is in the plastic training pot before I started. I had planted the shimpaku in the training pot and then got the idea to thread a tree though the channel in a piece of limestone I had. This tree was the right size to squeeze in.
But since the tree was centered it made the rock far off centered. I can't tell you how many times it has tipped over and once flipped over entirely while driving!
My intention is to eventually jin the entire left side of the tree.
I still kept a little of the overhang but it is much more stable now.
I accidentally broke a piece off the channel but the tree is still running through the rock.
