2019 California Bonsai Society’s 62nd Bonsai Exhibition

The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens will host the California Bonsai Society’s 62nd Anniversary Exhibition held in Friends Hall on March 23-24, 2019.

Admission to show is free with garden admission. Parking is also free.

The Huntington Library is located at 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, CA 91108. www.huntington.org

The show will be open to the public from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm each day. There will be more than 50 bonsai on display as well as some viewing stones.

The bonsai have been styled by the society’s members, some over many decades. The best of Southern California bonsai will be on display.

On Saturday March 23rd John Naka’s forest planting “Goshen 3” will be reassembled with former National Bonsai Collection curator and friend of John Naka, Jack Sustic leading the re-planting. Goshen 3 was John’s recreation of his Goshen Forest Planting -by far the most famous bonsai in the country. The original is the premier bonsai in The North American Collection at the National Arboretum in Washington DC.

Sunday between 11am and 1 pm a bonsai creation demonstration will be put on by past president Lindsay Shiba.

Members will be available to answer questions during the open hours. Literature on bonsai will be available at the show and in the Huntington’s book store. Entrance to Friends Hall and parking are free with garden admission.

The California Bonsai Society consists of professional instructors and advanced students, has been active in Southern California since the mid 1950s and was incorporated in 1962 under the presidency of John Y. Naka. It is one of the oldest and influential bonsai clubs in the country.

No not at the CBS show. There will be lots of vendors at The Bonsai-a-thon in late February though.
