I have been reading some bonsai books and they keep referring to California juniper. My question is "Is the California juniper the same as the Central Oregon High Desert trees"?

Depends what trees you are refering to if its native juniper then probably yes.

The more cold-tolerant cousin of the California Juniper is the Utah Juniper. The difference is that the Utah Juniper is monoecious (male and female on one tree), while the California Juniper is dioecious (separate male and female trees).

California Juniper

I believe I have the cold weather juniper trees. The bark on these are paper like. the really young juniper trees the leaves/branches are very sticky and prickly. The young growth has little white dots like scale but I believe it is a resin that is secreted by these trees. Will they work as a bonsai tree? Thanks
