Super new to bonsai. Bought this from a random nursery. Was told to water once a week. Have no idea what it is or how to care. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Looks like a ficus. Need to get a good clear shot of the growing tip to be more sure. Ficus also have white latex sap so it you cut a leaf and it bleeds a drop of white sap that would probably be fairly conclusive.
Water once a wek would probably be OK for many ficus as they are quite tolerant of dry but it is possible to get too wet or too dry. and needs vary depending on ambient conditions and location. Do not water according to the calendar. Always check the soil to determine whether a tree needs water. Just dig down a little with a fingertip to check if the soil is still damp or drier before deciding or stick a wood skewer in the soil to monitor soil moisture.

Decidedly un-fig-like.

Whatever it is it needs a bath. Leaves are filthy.
