Wondering if one can graft JWP on mugo pine - mugo is easy to get and with 50% off at homedepot, you can get relatively cheap mugo to use as rootstock - wondering if anyone had successfully done so before?

Haven't done it, but in general most pines are compatible.
I would go with scots pine though, sylvestris is more vigorous and can handle different soils a lot better than mugo. Usually scots pines are pretty cheap to get.
Pinus nigra might also be better than mugo, and their bark plates better than sylvestris/scots.
