Candidate, need help

In another post I asked if a tree would be a good candidate and several members said yes. Well now I have it. I know it needs to get in a pot ASAP water shade and left alone to start recovery. Is there anything else I can do to help the process?

This what I was able to recover. I wish I had more time to chase the roots but I don't.

Hope I didn't dig up a piece of firewood.

I do hope you had some wet burlap or something to cover those roots with. If they dry out, your chances of saving the plant drop precipitously.

I usually try to be positive on here but that's a dead tree. No way it can survive with that little amount of roots this time of year.

While I won't say it is dead, the chances of it surviving (all factors considered) is really low. I would have totally defoliated it if this is mine and removed all unwanted branches then sealed.
