Nice to see someone trying hibiscus.

If you want the cascade to develop you will have to put a check on the top growth. They now take the strength from the lower branches.

If it works, it will be a brilliant display when in bloom. What cultivar are you using? My “Li’l Kim” is turning yellow and dropping its leaves for autumn already.

I'm not too sure what cultivar it is, i'm hoping it will bloom so I get a better idea.

I root pruned pretty heavily at the start of summer and re-potted it so i'm letting it recover this season.
I made all the cuts in winter last year, ill be doing the same this year on the top growth.

I'm trying my usual inorganic bonsai mix with about 10% garden soil added for more water retention. It seems to be able to grow in anything, the wind knocked it over into my pond last year and it kept growing like nothing happened.

I had a 5 year old cascade hibiscus that just died. It would just recover from the winter and get its self going again when the fall would come in, bloomed once after I put it in a tall pot and wired it down. Shame, but my hibisucs always suffered from Aphids when I brought them in. Not enough ladybugs in the house.

This Hibiscus has been growing in my garden in around 6 inches of soil for around 5 years, I didn't see any Aphids on the tree this year... they were all over my Oak... I'll make sure to keep an eye out for them.

Its back in the green house now, we had around 6 inches of snow today 😮

Do you have any ideas on why it died?

Hoping for the same strong growth next year!

Are you sure it was a tropical hibiscus? If not, it would explain it dying being brought inside for winter!

Decided to cut back to one node on most of the branches instead. Hope it will bloom this year so I can figure out what cultivar it is.
