Besides killing the wife's cat and consequently being thrown out of the house, what can I do to avoid cats fiddling with my bonsai?

Electrical wire, a cage around it (second hand birdcages are cheap), a hose sprayer with a movement sensor..
But then again, sometimes outdoor cats just disappear. They isolate themselves when they're sick and dying. The purrrfect cover up.

I know there are some detectors available as well, that send out electical shocks to collars when animals come too close. Other than that, you could adapt it to send out high pitched anti-cat noise instead. Hopefully scaring it away every time it gets close.
You don't want electrified cats jumping around your benches..

See if the cat finds rosemary repellent and grow small ones
here and there around your trees, [ mame'?]

Or spray the area around the plants with home-made rosemary
spray.

Our deterrent for the neighbour's cats [ 10 and kittens ], they climb
the almost 2 m chain link fence, behind the Chinese hedge, is water
guns loaded with a very little soap and water.
If persistent, a very little soap and a huh of the Moruga scorpion pepper.

The neighbour's yard smell like ........................ peeee yewww
and the stuff sticks to shoes. They never heard of fixing kittie.
Good Luck

Rosemary doesn't seem to work for Dutch street cats. I keep finding their shit near the rosemary bush in my yard.

The cat in question isn't mine, but the damage is, and the owners don't take responsibility for it. So I got a pellet gun and warned them one last time. The yard has been free of cats ever since.

Called the Trinidad Prevention of Cruelty to Animals folk.
they could do nothing.
Can't quit pellet the neighbours:)

It's not the cat, it is the irresponsible neighbours.
I understand your past frustration.
Good Day
