In spring of 2012, I collected this cherry tree (pictured below) which I believe to be Prunus serrulata (var. lannesiana). It's about an inch in width at the base, and has been growing very well in a colander for the past year. I repotted it yesterday into a larger pot (because I want to just let it grow as freely as possible and don't have the ability to plant it in the ground) and hopefully it will grow a bit more this year and increase in girth at least somewhat.

The top three photos where taken (left to right) in early April 2012 soon after collection, late April, and July. The bottom photo was taken yesterday.

I recently shipped this tree from Zhejiang to Beijing, where I currently live. It was neglected all last year, as I was not in Zhejiang to tend to it. Based on the girth of the roots now and the size of the trunk (just over 3 inches at the base now, versus 1.7 inches when first collected in 2012), it seems that it did well in its oversized pot/basin this past year. I had to chop the main trunk in order to make mailing easier, but it should (hopefully) recover well this next growing season.
