At Home depot today they have Chinese Elm at half off. There about 5-6 feet tall with 1 inch trunk. There in 5 gal plastic pots. I would love to have a large elm. Can this be trunk chopped & survive?

Chopped, layered, root cuttings... you'd have to try to kill it

Air layered, I didn’t think about that but good idea.

I just looked that variety up. It’s a weeper. I haven’t seen this one before.

The weeping characteristic is moderate, nothing like a weeping willow. The other characteristic, 'Sempervirens', is much stronger. In a mild winter climate these will hold their leaves all winter. You can do cuttings and air layers before you chop it. And when you repot, you can do root cuttings from any too-large roots.
