Chinese Elm Black Spot

I acquired a chinese elm in December. I later found out it was not an indoor plant and this spring took Baby Bonsai outside. It has since developed black spots on its leaves. I bought a fungicide that was organic and wasted a month trying to use that product. I then did some more research and got daconil. It now has almost no foliage left. We also had a ton of rain and humid days so I was worried about fungus. I brought it in out of the rain one night and of course see a film of white over all of the top soil the next day. This occurred a day or two before the daconil arrived. I try to bring it in now when it rains and let it dry very well between watering. Is there anything else I should be doing?

First, where do you live? People can give better advice if they know your climate.

Second, is there any way you can share a photo? Fungus may be a symptom - instead of the cause - of other problems. I am worried about your soil.

Western Pennsylvania. I brought him in for the day because shortly after I watered it, it began to rain. Tomorrow when the weather is clear he'll go back outside.

My line of thought. To be honest….a photo in focus would be a lot more helpful. Take it outside and photograph it is natural light so problem points you mention can be more clearly seen.

The white I can sort of see looks like hard water buildup. Some of it can wash away in the rain leaving a dusted layer behind.

Just Stop moving it and spraying it and it will be fine!

I wasn't moving or spraying it until the problems started...those are actions trying to resolve the problem. If I never sprayed it or moved it, it would probably be dead now

Looks bleak. If it was mine, I’d put it outside in a place where it gets AM sun, and a little shade in the hottest part of the day, and leave it in that spot. If it doesn’t rain for 2 days, water it on the 3rd. In a few weeks, you’ll know if it’s alive. If it makes it that far, it will need protection in the winter, but somewhere it can go dormant, like an unheated garage, not inside. Good luck.
