Number one, it's winter. Leaves are not forever, and last longer, better, in a good environment. A south or west window is best indoors. What do you have?
It's being treated as evergreen this Winter. The leaves were brand new. South-facing large window, pot right next to it.
My guess is it got too warm. The window sill is always cool and so is the pot. I usually dont heat my room actively. But I turned on the heater too much for a day or two and it mightve gone up to 25°C, I assume the air was quite dry as well.
I saw a video of Peter Chan today reiterating that Chinese elms dont like heat in Winter.
