I was gifted this chinese elm in May 2021.

Same tree this year before repotting. (26/04/22)

I decided to trunk chop it today.

I also wrapped the top of the tree with sphagnum moss and rooting powder to see if i can get 2 extra trees.

Just over a month and it seems to be doing really well!

Doesn't look so great around the cut site though, should have invested in some of that cut paste.

I’ve gone back a recut with concave and knob cutters my bad cuts from the past and they healed well. But I think you did good cutting back to that lowest branch to de-malsai the elm. The cuts I did early on weren’t great either it’s something that is learned through experience and practice.
