Roughed this one out a bit. It started out a Christmas looking tree, 6 feet tall but I liked the bottom 1/2. I’ll decide on how much to take off the top at the 2cd wiring phase, probably 10-12 inches. Not planning a formal upright, that’s just as far as the branches will safely move for now.. and of course there’s no inner branching to be seen yet.

You took out a lot of foliage. Junipers need green. Hopefully, it will survive!

The tree is in full health and just coming out of winter with energy levels set on blast. Notice I didn’t mess with roots or anything else heavy besides removing the clutter. It will sit as is as I redo the wire about every month. I expect lots of back budding, I see these things get ran over by mowers and come back from nothing all the time.

Interesting...what do you think you can do with it then?

Something in the alpine timberline similar to these quick examples. How extreme, tall and Shari/Jin I don’t know yet. I have thought to add a little wiggle into the trunk line as well. Ideas.

First, where does this guy find trees. Second I like the style but would remove the bottom 4 branches. Al pine style!

Neither of those is a particularly developed example. The foliage pads are not finished and the branches are too long for the design, with the foliage concentrated on the tips, too far away from the trunks to look in proportion. In my opinion, those trees still have a long way to go before being bonsai.

That is exactly why I chose them, they convey where I’m at with my current goal. I could have grabbed a pic of one of Walter’s specimens but didn’t for a reason ;)

All good then. I thought they were your inspiration, as in what you were aiming to achieve

Word. No visions of grandure here, get the things to the prebonsai stage then go from there. If the sheet hits the fan can always just stump it, call it a pig then resell it for 3 times what I paid. Or a raft :)
