Sorry, left out the questions ! Newbie here.

So I bought this Chirimen knowing it had problems, but loved it just the same. The biggest problem as is typical is the leggy branches.

there are several areas with small branches starting at the base of a leggy branch. Is there a way to promote this and when a decent length chop off the large leggy branch?

How does one prevent a branch from becoming leggy in the first place?

Several long leggy branches about 6” in length have a small Bud about half way back to the trunk. Can the branch be trimmed back to this bud and let the branch develop from there?

if back budding doesn’t occur, how is ramification promoted on these trees?

I know, total newbie questions, appreciate the help!

I have several Chirimen and Sekka hinoki and I follow the instructions I have seen in Youtube videos.
I can recomment the channel linked below, there are a lot of videos about Sekka hinoki (very similar to Chirimen and I personally think they are the same) on that channel.

If you search on Sekka / Chirimen on this forum you will find some topics with a little bit of info.
