Other than "don't bother" does any one have any insight on this notoriously poor bonsai stock? I know im probably wasting my time on these and I'm ok with that.

I have a ton of them in unwanted locations, they are amazingly easy to harvest so I'm willing to a little experimentation to see if i can get something to work.

I dug this (these?) one in the pic up today from an area with vey poorly drained, almost boggy soil that seems to have some clay in it. They seem to do better there than in drier location.248657248658248659248661

Chop low, just above the curve, in early spring and hope for the best. Someone more experienced will hopefully chime in.
Honestly the cut i made was just to get rid of the tree because it was blocking the sun on a honeysuckle I have my eye on. I did get what looks like 3-5 inches of die back so I'm a bit gun shy for another cut now.
