I just read that Cinnamon was a natural fungicide. Is this legit, or just silly?

Yes. It is a natural fungicide, but unless you can ID what fungus you have and how much you need to use before your tree dies, buying a labeled commercial fungicide whose dosage and targets have been identified probably will be a better thing to do.
Probably cheaper in the long run, too.
