Bald cypress #2
Grown from seed. Been chopped a couple times. Has 2.5” trunk with a decent juvenile base flare. Has some movement on the trunk. Picture shown with next apex set in place.

Tree was chopped yesterday. It now has a 2.25” trunk with a decent flare but no buttress. Should I develop it to be a small single BC or toss it into a forest. It has some potential.

Did some work on this BC today. Cut off a bunch of shoots where I don’t want. Carved the chops for smaller scars. Did some rough wiring for direction. Some of the branches I may cut off later. Right now I want to keep a few extra options.

I have yet to decide whether it will be informal upright or flat top.
This one has the taper and all the limbs in all the right places that I think an informal upright is what I would do.

Looks good! I’d lean towards informal because you’ve got some good movement… but I could also see it as a craggly flat top.

Since I’ve decided to make this an informal upright, the branch near the chop on the right is too big and has to go IMHO. Your thoughts?

Finally had some time to properly repot this tree.
Washed the roots and picked them clean with chopsticks, using the soft under side of the bamboo chopsticks of course :)

Trimmed off the top tier of roots and sorted out all
crossing roots.

Back into the flat with new soil. Not bad for less than 3 years from seed huh.

You are starting to get quite a bit of basal flare going with this one, this is going to be one impressive tree down the road. I’m excited to see what you can do with this one!

Decided to promote a lower branch to apex and shorten the tree 1.5”. Also did some carving to improve taper.

I wasn’t happy with the new apex and decided to chop it down 1.5” further.
