While on vacation, I rescued two boxwood destined for the trash. One is a 5” and a 7” at the base. It took some doing to fit them in the trunk of my sedan. They are now in Home Depot cement mix tubs.
They have budded out very nicely. I will let it grow unchecked the rest of this year to let the roots recover. Next year I will select the branches and thin them out as needed.
I checked with my brother. These are Ilex crenata (soft touch holly).
Worked on the second tree this afternoon.
Cleared the center of the tree and trimmed the dead wood.
Shaped the trunks.
Leaving the a lot of foliage so the tree can heal from all the cuts.
Should I get rid of the crossing roots?
