Bought this a couple months ago for 50% off. It was wiry and everywhere. I planned on leaving it alone until the spring but the branches kept snagging me whenever I'd walk by it to feed and water the chickens. So I chose a leader and hard pruned it out of annoyance. About a week later it surprised me with some decent backbudding lol. Hopefully next spring I'll get some back buds lower on the leader. It's impossible to wire non-green branches on this thing as they snap if you look at them wrong, so I'm treating it like a clip and grow.

So out of curiosity after I pruned the long leader on Saturday, I put some cuttings in water to see if it would root from hardwood. I just took this photo...2.5 days later and it's already rooting on hardwood o_O

Even green ficus cuttings I propogate take at least a week to start showing roots.

Probably the last update until spring. The leaves are turning a nice yellow. backbudded well since I hard pruned it. I'm not sure what to do with it. The trunk candidate on the left has more taper and decided to go cascade style all by itself. The right side is just brooming. I'm just letting it grow out for a couple seasons for now.

Maybe that cascade branch is the tree telling you what it wants to be when it grows up. Somewhere in that tangle of surface roots I’m betting you have a head start on really nice nearing.

That should have said nebari. Whoever invented auto fill truly is the anti-Christ.
