Clip and Grow a Larch?

They don't backbud, but beyond that they can be grown with clip and grow.

Having said this - they are REALLY easy to wire in winter and are flexible but still hold a position in not too long.

I both wire and clip them all the time. They are BY FAR the best bonsai species imnsho.

Doesn't a larch essentially do the same as a backbud since it loses its foliage each year and puts out new buds each spring? Or does the little tuff of needles extend from the exact same bud on a branch each year?

No.

Wherever the last clumps of foliage were - that's what extends the following year as a branch.
