Ive been perusing around the inerwebs and have found a few examples of specimen Coast Live Oak bonsai. A couple on Bonsai Mirai's gallery. A Few on the website for The Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt. And a couple on the gallery page for the Redwood Empire Bonsai club.

I am hoping some folks might have some images to share of their favorite examples. I am interested in what very developed examples might look like. So far it seems there are not very many examples that have been in a pot for a long time ( meaning more than about 20 years).

Here are some links to some examples I have found. Coast+Live+Oak

While this is a GREAT tree, with much skilled work behind it, and would be proud to call it my own..

Is it possible that he either said its been in A pot for 35 years...?

Or THAT pot... .with repots?

Just that the soil appearance/lack of decomp and moss growth does not "read" 35 years... :) (I could be WAY off)

Also... GREAT thread idea, and loving THIS tree, and all other examples given..

As I've said before... these are my favorite "trees I can't grow".. solidified by our recent trip to VA and the Chesapeake area.

I want to TRY.. because this yeat.. in my coldframe IN a coldframe (in a microclimate), my dwarf Yuapon SEEMS to have done alright...
