I have the opportunity to collect this burning bush and I’m wondering the best way to go about it.

Some details:

It is about 4-5 inches at the base
it’s got a cool movement to it and has good low branching
It is in pure sand
I do currently have a burning bush in a bonsai training pot that is doing well, so I’m not totally new to the species.

I am wondering if I should do any summer or fall pruning to get it ready for next spring? I know they only push 1 time a year where I am at so I think an early spring collection would be best?

Let me know your thoughts

I agree that early spring as buds swell would be the best timing to collect

I think you could prune of that lower branch now to let it start healing that wound. I agree waiting until spring would be best. I would go hard on the roots and the top all at collection, like you said single flush so you don't want to have to cut back harder.
Good luck
