I found a decent looking elm and have removed it from the ground. I have it in an oversized pot and now I'm waiting to see if it will survive the trauma. I hope it does. Say a prayer for it.

Is there anything I can give it to help it along?

Looks very promising. It should be fine...it is an elm. ;)

I would have have chopped it much shorter if it is mine though.

Collected elm...

Nice find! I did the same with a Hackberry (I think:confused:) just the other day. It appears to have a few buds already! I hope yours recovers well!

Most Elms around my area will grow from limited roots when collected. Not sure what type you have there but the most common in this area is the Wnged Elm. I pulled three out of my rental property just a few days ago! I found another good one today when I was poking around there cleaning up the yard some... I will go get it later this week!

Anyway, looks like you got some decent roots, I hope it makes it... Vitamin B1 and/or Superthrive might help, but the efficacy is hotly debated around here.

Good luck!

Yeah I am leaning towards chopping low. I'm not in a hurry so I cut it down to a manageable size for now. My first goal is to keep it alive.

The plant appears to be pulling through. So far anyway.

I do want to cut it lower on the the trunk, like to the first or second branch. What sort of tool could I use to make such a cut. I really don't have many tools. Maybe I could make a uro or even a hollow trunk. Probably need some kind of grinder?

A saw.

Once new roots grow...you better leave it alone. If it was just collected a few days ago, you should still be fine reducing it. Good luck!

Help!!!

The elm is pushing out some leaves slowly but I took a closer look today and the whole plant is covered in spider mites! It's newly collected and barely has roots so I have no idea what mean sure to take... Any advice would be appreciated :(

Get some liquid milk, dilute in equal amount of water, add a squirt or 2 of dishwashing liquid (NOT anti-bacterial) in a liter of spray bottle, shake and spray the leaves. Repeat after a week.

Do not wash off any residue, it will dry and flake off after a few days.
