Ponderosa Pine collected @ 6000 ft. B&B Andy Smith. Arrived today , planted into a flat with some wood blocks at an angle so soil is maintained closer to the root ball. Topped w Sphagnum. I already have something in mind for it’s future but for now focus on ensuring success with recovery, will know how it went once candles open and buds form in fall.

I was wondering if that section would be bendable - nice!

I’ve always worried about putting raffia on a very heavily textured pine and what that does to the character of it long term. I’ve used raffia on quite a few junipers, but the bark is pealed off eventually anyways. May be worth asking around about what a years worth of tightly wrapped raffia would do to a heavily textured trunk.

Had a conglomeration of ants in the container near corner .. I submerged it last night in a kiddy pool to down them out. I didn’t see them going up the tree and I don’t see any aphids or scale insects. I wonder could it be root aphids?
