Collected Red Bud

We have an older American Redbud on our property. I collected a shoot that was probably 2-3 years old. When I collected it, there were minimal roots (some, just not a lot) and the plant had yet to have bud swell. This entire season it did not leaf out but the trunk is still green on the scratch test. Any hopes the roots are growing and it will leaf out next year? (Not bonsai related, sorry. This is more tree/planted related) Thank you for your help.

If its still green, there's hope. Keep in shade if possible.

It’s been there all summer. Downside, it’s stayed wet given the amount of rain we’ve had this year. I have never seen anything take this long. Sometimes delayed, but never an entire season. Lesson learned, next time wait till the energy leaves the roots

The one that is established is a horse. My wife split one off and it opened mid summer. Mine didn’t move a bit. I’m collecting seeds this year. Hands down one beautiful plant.
