This past spring I was finally able to find some crape myrtles worth buying. In doing so I was amazed at the difference in the dwarf species sizes and the semi-dwarf. Pics were not meant for comparison, but I think you get the idea. The tiniest and my favorite is Chickasaw, then Pokomoke and the semi-dwarf Tonto will go into my yard. They were purchased in spring and just sun, fert and water.

The Chickasaw. Tiny shiny leaves and great little blossoms. Seems great for a mame or shohin.

And here is Pokomoke also a dwarf, but the foliage is almost twice as large. Could be a large shohin.

And finally a semi-dwarf that the foliage is almost 4 times as big. Best in my yard.

As most in the south I really love the various crape myrtle in often startling colors. Enjoy.
