Hey guys. I hve a few trees which haven't woken up from he winter yet and i'm beginning to worry that they've passed their expiration date.

I have a sweetgum which pushed buds early on but those buds never burst. I also have a privet which doesn't appear to have even formed buds. I've scratched a few branches on each abd some are green, others aren't. I know I've lost branches at best.

When will I know for sure if the trees made it? Should I continue feeding and watering as usual and hope?

Thanks in advance.

I am in South East PA and have trees at all different stages right now. The past Winter was unusual and harsh here and everything in general "pushed" early, some while under snow. Except for the largest(4 foot plus) none of the others are in leaf yet and are simply dormant later then usual even though they pushed a bit early. We will still have a few nights in the near future around 30f here so I suspect the leaf out will start when the nights fall to no more then the 40s. I understand that most would think they pushed early and died but I am certain they will all be ok.

Thanks for helping a new guy stop the panic attack.

Just to point out that we have a relatively earlier spring than you guys up north and most of my trees sprouted mid-February. Most except for a Korean Hornbeam. I was worried about it but a week ago, it started pushing out new leaves. It is more than 2 months later than the rest! (but better late than never right?)

Not saying same is the case for your trees but it is a possibility. :)

I noticed one tiny little green bud developing on the sweetgum yesterday. At least one part of this tree appears to have survived.

The privet has yet to show any sign of life. No buds have emerged yet...
