When reading or watching videos there seems to be two trains of thought about soil for azalea bonsai. A regular good bonsai non organic mix or a more organic mix. I want to work on a 3 gallon nursery pot , and cut down and let grow out but am not sure about soil in pot wich seems to be mulch. Please Help

At this stage in the development of the tree you are fine to keep it in the soil it is currently in, so long as it drains well and you feel confident you can keep it healthy in this soil.

Once the tree becomes more developed you can switch to bonsai soil like akadama or Kanuma if you wish.

Much of bonsai is adapting and developing practices that work best for you in your environment.
