Copper spray on dwarf Japanese maples

I was looking for advice on the frequency of use of copper fungicide spray on dormant Japanese maples. I live in NJ zone 6b. Most of my maples are in the ground next to my house. I've been putting a light coat of copper spray from the trunk to the crown every month. How much is too much?
