I'm willing to spend $150-250 on each of them.

Cotoneaster - I'm looking for a small-leaf variety such as micophyllus cooperi or Streib's Findling.

Crepe Myrtle - looking for a miniature variety such as chickasaw, but I'd consider another cultivar with comparably small leaves.

micophyllus cooperi

I prefer the plain Cotoneaster horizontalis : when kept outside, it drops its leaves.

Much better for selecting the branches, trim them, wire them (not so often, trimming and pruning is usually enough). 'Microphyllus' are most of the time evergreens, not so easy to design in my opinion, except if you want to follow the "topiary" path. But just like the enlightment, there are several ways to bonsaï 🤤

Thanks! I have a Cranberry Cotoneaster / Apiculatus that is deciduous with pink flowers. I agree - I prefer deciduous, but I wanted something with smaller leaves. Smaller the better because my space is very small. I sold most of my larger bonsai this year.
