Amongst the hordes of potential trees I’ve got my eye on are a couple of mature cotoneasters which are struggling in between the larger ones nearby. As a semi evergreen species does this affect when the best time to collect them is? I am led to believe that they drop their leaves only for a short time before bud break so would this be the best time to collect them or would they work better collected in winter and protected while this years leaves are still on, for example? Cheers.

I've collected them in both autumn and winter and they don't seem to notice at all. Even small plants have an extensive root system, but that seems to include many small feeder-type roots.

Hey, better late than never! ;)

No, but thank you very much. I have been instructed to leave them until spring though so the birds can eat the berries. I’ll have a hoard of angry old ladies after me if I take them before then. It’s good to know they’re not fussy anyway.
