Hello everyone.
I have a 50+ year old crabapple that I did a thread graft 2 years ago. Last spring 2021 I removed the mother plant and the graft seemed fine. This spring however the leaves on the graft seem smaller than the rest of the tree.
I would like to defoliate the entire tree and only leave the leafs on the grafted branch to allow it to grow. Has anyone ever defoliated a crabapple tree?
The tree is healthy. I just don't want to loose the graft and give it more of a chance to survive.
