Firstflush
Chumono
Ligustrum Japonicum Texanum.
This thing finally is taking off since settled in and established in a pot. Is was a 25-30 gal nursery shrub. In the yard they are tough as nails, can take full sun and part shade to full shade and get small white flowers in spring. I highly recommend them as hedging material or for privacy especially if you want to get some use out of your tree while you are ground growing.
The thing popped at almost every single leaf node behind the cuts. Very healthy. We shall see if the leaves stay reduced in size as compared to the old growth you see in the pics. Unfortunately, a year later and roots are coming out the bottom and I made need to repot.
There is not a lot of info out there on the variety. According to kuromatsubonsai.com (http://kuromatsubonsai.com/broadleaf-bonsai/privet-bonsai/) they don’t like being pot bound too much. Can anyone confirm this?
