This past winter we had a large Lodgepole Pine drop large limbs on our roof and patio (fortunately no damage). The tree was a hazard and cut down. Normally, I just unceremoniously split it to help heat the house in the winter. But this section of the trunk had some nice fluting going on.

I want to section it into some thin slabs for display purposes. I'm not sure of the best way to prep and finish the wood and deal with the drying and checking that has started. Anyone with experience in this?

You can't undo checking so it will need to be filled with epoxy or some other form of bonding agent once they are set. You probably need to cut your slabs to accelerate the drying. There are some great woodworkers on the forum. Maybe they will chime in with some more advice. Cool pieces!
