I was able to get a Crepe Myrtle yesterday from my neighbor who needed it moved. It's a 'Tonto' variety. I was able to get it out fairly easily and with most of the roots. The tap root did tear out a bit but I mostly cut that off anyways.
I put it in a 3.5" deep training pot but was wondering if it would have been better to put it in something a bit deeper like a 5". Figured I'd just let it go this year to recover before performing any other work. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

These things are nearly bulletproof. I dug one out of the ground with little roots and it didn't skip a beat. And where I dug it from, new shoots shot up from what was left of the roots.

It should not phase it. I got the stumps from my neighbors when they redid the landscaping. Got two with almost no roots and a good 10-12 inch caliper trunk. Put them in 35gallon nursery containers and they put off 6 foot shoots last year. A very bullet proof tree
