Hello-- looking for input-- any recommendations on a good cut paste? Are their household recipes by chance I could make myself? If not, any special brand that is preferred or highly thought of? Thank you!

You'll find about half the bonsai community uses it and swears by it, and the other half doesn't use it and swears at it. As with most things, it seems...

Personally, I've got both the tub stuff that is really thick (don't know the brand), and the thinner tube stuff (kiyonal? or something like that). I prefer the tub stuff when I do use any. Would like to get some of the electricians putty to give that a try but haven't gotten around to it.

Household items i've heard of some using include wood glue or even nail polish. I've used the wood glue before. I now use the thick putty that comes in a small tub with japanese writing on it. works good, just wet your fingers when applying.

I agree.

I haven't used the tubed or tub cut paste but I think the tube (more fluid) is used on smaller cuts...just slather it on. The paste/clay is for bigger cuts that should take much longer (maybe years) to heal. Part of the frustration arises when one is used for the wrong application. It either is messy or difficult to apply and/or not work as well as intended.

I love my home made but too much work so I'll give the electrician duct seal a try.

I used the electrician duct seal yesterday (from Home Depot...$2.58/pound) and it seems like a good product. :)

Do apply oil on your hands/fingers before you handle it or wear disposable gloves. It can get sticky (but not much). ;) I am not sure if it will be harder in colder climates but as used yesterday, it felt perfect.

Elmers Wood Glue works well and is CHEAP. I used it on the recent collected Burning Bush in another thread a few weeks ago on the initial chop before the collection and it is still holding up fine. Some people apply it and stick bark from the cuttings made to it to make it blend in so it is versatile too.
