Cut paste, remove?

How long after a trunk/branch chop do u remove the cut paste ? Do u clean the edge of the cut where the tree has healed to induce more healing or leave the tree to heal alone ?

I check the cut paste for adherence from time to time. I will often re-excite the callus once a year usually in the spring. Not always if I am very pleased with the shape and progress, I may just let it go. Replace the cut paste as required if cracking or have difficulty sticking in position.

It’s not a “once and done” kind of thing. It’s “continual maintenance”. Heck, ALL of bonsai is!

We do something to the tree. The tree responds in some way. If we like the response, fine, leave it alone. If not, do something. Wait and evaluate. Repeat...
