I know it’s not even near for what a bonsai is. Not even 5% there yet, but i just wanna show a cute little plant i have. I don’t know why but this kiddo just make me so attracted to it. Does the trunk movement retain when it grows? Mmmm... but i guess not ‘cause if i grow it to thicken the trunk, ill have to chop it to create taper. I guess no isn’t any other way. Anyway just wanna share it. Many people would probably against my opinion but i just like the plant.
field maple btw

Oh - and go collect 20 more. Repeat that every year, wire them all. You'll thank me later.

Also, I would try to have the first bend as low in the trunk as possible.

Yeah i know that. There’s a bud growing near the base around the first turn. I’m just gonna let it grow for now then cut around there

9?
It is possible to grow a good bonsai while keeping the tree in small pots and only doing small chops. That approach will give a bonsai free from scars but it is the long method and will take many more years to achieve a nice bonsai.

Pruning is not wiring...I said wire it.

I've messed around growing trunks in the ground and without wiring low, interesting shapes in the trunk - you're just growing boring trees.

fyi: you need to grow 1m tall for every 1cm diameter of trunk at the root line...
