I am hoping to have some trees far along enough this year to start working on displays and getting a feel for showing them off either at local club shows or at home. In that vein, I made some purchases from Da Su Bonsai online. The stands arrived within 10 days from order and were packed very well.

Everything came from the $100 and under filter on the website.

Mahogany stand with teak legs. I got this with the idea of some of my bigger trees in mind. It's about 12" x 8"

Next up is a Redwood Hanging Burl Jitta about 10" by 5"

I also got a Burl slab - don't remember the wood. It's about 8.5" x 7"

Finally I got a traditional round made from monkeypod wood, according to he website. IMG_20200123_145048.jpg

All in all I m happy with the build quality and finish on each of these pieces. The traditional round I will likely resand and refinish bit it was the least expensive piece of them all.

So my first round of Jitta seemed popular (got them sold!) I used the cash for some more wood and to try a new finish. I had been using Danish oil, and I like the finish of it but had a long conversation with another woodworker who suggested the drawback on Danish oil (outside of spontaneous combustion) is that it provides no UV protection. On some species of wood this will result in an unwanted change of color as the wood degrades under UV. So by request, I made some larger Jitta and tried my hand with a new finish. I'm happy with the results!

Walnut freeform with Semi Gloss UV resistant Finish. Probably will finish differently in the future, or maybe stain then finish. I personally like Walnut better once it has darkened a bit.

Australian Lacewood (Thanks for the IDm, Smoke!) Freeform with Danish Oil finish

I'm currently working on some basic stands. I'm a bit limited in my wood shop (less than half a garage) and I keep trying to find good workarounds for dimensional cutting sans table saw. Also trying to cure some bad router chatter. Thanks for looking!
