lol there are like 4 commonly used ones.
They really are not hard to keep straight and people arent going to stop using them.
If you want to miss out on potentially learning something, your choice

JBP - Japanese Black Pine
JWP - Japanese White Pine
JRP - Japanese Red Pine
BRT - Brazilian Rain tree

Might as well get used to it, its not going away. Old timers (self included) will continue to resist, but hell, we even capitalize so what do we know.

I do believe that post was referring to switching from Aluminum ( Al ) to copper ( Cu ) which by the way, the abbreviations for these elements are actually IUPAC approved abbreviations. IUPAC = International Union of Pure and Applied Chemists.

But I get the point.
First time I saw DAS, BC and CBS or BS all threw me for a loop. Dwarf Alberta Spruce, Bald Cypress and CBS - Colorado Blue Spruce & Blue Spruce.

I also get thrown by common names, and I know common names throw off people from countries that are not North America.

Good form would be to use the scientific name at least once in the initial post, followed by the common name, and only then after the 2 names have been spelled out, switch to the abbreviation.
But that is me.
There are no name police that will arrest you if you don't follow my recommendations for good form.
