It's on the lowest branch? Let it grow, and keep the upper section chased back.
Yeah it’s the little back bud with a couple leaves on it in the third photo.

My question though was should I cut back some of the long shoots I’ve got going on that branch in order to push more energy to the new bud.

No, trim those back to two sets of leaves in autumn after this year's growth has stopped..

Hello everyone! I wanted to give an update on my parrot beak. I spent last season letting the first branch grow with no pruning and kept the apex and most other branches pruned back. I also guy-wired major branches down to mimic an old oak. They still can go lower.

What do you all think? Like the direction? Im astounded by this species’ ability to grow dense small leaves and it is very oak-like for a tropical. It’s a very happy tree right now!

Would love any additional feedback or suggestions at this stage! Many thanks!

I do think that for the size of the trunk the tree needs balance, and the branches and leaves need to come in some.
A wise satyr (Sorce) once said “Taper and Scale, Taper and Scale” … 😜
