Digging Elm from a garden

Thought I might as well start a thread of this decade project. See whether this is still around in 2033..

A friend asked me whether I wanted to dig an elm clum from their garden. They had chopped it, and wanted it gone.



So me being the good boy I am (YES I AM!) I went over with a spade, a bucket and some olds shoes to lift it and take it home, thinking this is probably a small quick lift.

Not as small as one might have thought...

The main part of the clump was actually fused and had a GREAT flat rootbase. No vertical roots had to be chopped!

Nice and snug..


Final Tally, including one fat root which I am trialing as a ulmus root cutting. WHo has to many trees, really!?

Shovels aren't necessary for elm collection. A pruning or reciprocating saw is all you need...
