Digging out an old Hinoki Cypres

Just wanted to share this nice find. Hinoki’s a.k.a Chamaecyparis are my absolute favorite! Got the chance to dig out this old lady from someone’s garden. Had to cut a few taproots and it took about 1 hour in total.

Hopefully it can recover! First styling will be autumn 2023.

Looks like a fun project. I have a couple of these on either side of my garage that my wife dislikes. If she ever wants them replaced I’ll try something like this. However there’s pretty much no interior grow and I’m under the impression they don’t back bud. Or at least are very difficult to get to back bud.

Nice find mate. But I would not call it old per se, considering that it is a longlived tree that can reach and exceed 1000 years of age probably isnt even a teenager at this point xD

Yep, they don’t backbud. But there are ways to work around it.

Hahah, yep you’re right! Well, I guess older then me at least. Maybe 20-30 years old these are quite slow-growers.
