Any 1 has a method/technique to digging up potential bonsai from cracks in rock? This little guy is comming out of a large granite deposit. I was thinking of using a hammer drill, hammer and chisel

Forget iT. It cannot be collected by digging. You could layer it. But then again.. Why not spend your energy on better trees?

You'll only try this once. Next time, you'll make a judgment based upon the odds of retrieving a live tree. The rocks you bust out will have to impinge upon the roots trapped therein. Getting it out and getting it out in savable condition are two different animals.

Oaks have a tendency to shoot deep taproots and this one has been there a while. Even if the taproot couldn't get far, this thing has rooted every where it could, and getting any usable/salvageable roots are going to be near impossible in my opinion.
