So I went from this:

To this:

IMG_0297.JPG

I've had a lot of large yews sitting too close to the ground (sitting on pieces of 1x1 wood) so after about three years of telling myself "I ought to do something about that," I finally did...
Eventually I would like to build a stream going down the slope with some monkey poles scattered about... but this will do for now

Got enough yews? LOL!

Looks nice! I use a very similar setup, though I use standard concrete blocks and 2 x 8 pressure-treated boards. I just place the boards on top of the blocks because then I don't have to bother with the blocks getting in the way of some of my pots.

Like it.

Whats these two?

The one on the left is a bit of a sickly ponderosa pine ( I think it will be okay, but many of the needle tips are brown)... on the right is just a mugo I salvaged from the side of the road last year when someone was throwing it away...

I like how The step down matches the deck(apostrophe)s.

Nice.

Is it too much too spell out, apostrophe?
Is broke! Turn phone sideways? Or skip it?:p

Nice set up. I appreciate your posting the photos. I have a...large...backyard area....but have not yet determined how to best incorporate trees when they come out of the growing ground and move into boxes.

Thanks! You always have an eye for the artistic! ;)

I'm trying to make it a habit of pointing these things out because seeing it trains the eye to "see the tree", or the flaw, or the right pot or stand or accent..etc etc etc.

I been on a brainstorm for my own yard..

If..I...may? Judy:p

Your grade is nice for a stream!
I'm a sucker for a bridge....

I look for a reason to do something.
Those two steps and the similar feeling of the roof step down seems a good visual place to start. IMO:):p

I don't know what way you plan on runnimg your stream...or how much more space you got behind you, and can take up..
aviary-image-1495205382476.jpeg
Your big pool mimicking the roof.
Drop down To rail line
Rectangle waterfall.
Small waterfall...
Swerve around to the bottom pool.

This is what I taught myself by thinking right now. Thanks for this...
aviary-image-1495205580027.jpeg

If you do put a top pool there...
And control your stream output at The top side of it...
If you get a heavy rain...
Your overflow will run out into the lawn..
Rather than creating a raging river of destruction, ruining your streamside decor.

Plus that grade is perfect for a slow stream along that deck...

Oh and I like how The bridge balances the deck stairs.

Pretty yard!

Future pics fully required!

Thanks for posting!

Good work, just keep going! I would think an auto water system would be something you'll want once you move up into the slope with the trees. Level out a walking path in the middle of that area and put your posts/benches along that so you can get into and tend them. You have a nice yard with a lot of display opportunities. You'll be able to see the trees once you get them up on posts higher from the deck.
And some very nice yews!
