I got this from the throw away section at a nursery today. I know the pictures are not good but is it Dogwood or Maple? It has some buds so I will know in a few weeks I guess.

Thanks,
Michael

To ID a leafless tree, you need good closeups of the buds. Dogwood buds are very distinctive, so seeing the buds would help.

dogwoods usually develop rather large floral buds that persist over the winter. There are even some species (Cornus mas -corneiliancherry dogwood) that are already in bloom here in the midwest. without the best pics of the buds, my guess would probably have to be some type of maple. But i guess only time will tell :D

I believe what you have there is Quercus robur the english oak who's unfolding leaves vary greatly in both time and colour which can be yellow, red, shades of brown or orange if not then some American variety of oak that we don't have on our shores. If it is English oak their best natural feature is the thickness of their Boles and their tendency towards being Hollow.
